Palak Rice Recipe is the combo of Palak (Spinach Leaves) and Basmati Rice. Both are cooked with mild Indian Spices and then turned into a unique Rice Dish.
It is a unique Indian meal, then can be enjoyed as it is. Palak is healthy for sound body and mind. Kids generally run away from it, but kids like eating rice, so if you are adding palak in this way in your plain rice dish, then kids will also like to eat it.
Palak Rice itself is a comfort, complete meal, hence you do not need to make any side dish with it. You can make a quick Raita with it. A healthy, perfect meal can be served twice in a week.
How to make Palak Rice Recipe:

Ingredients
- 1 bunch fresh palak / spinach chopped
- 2 cups long grained basmati rice
- Few curry leaves
- 1 inch piece of ginger
- 6-8 pods of garlic
- 1 big onion finely chopped
- 2-3 tomatoes chopped
- 1 tsp garam masala powder
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp mustard seeds
- 1 tbsp roasted chana dal
- 2-3 green chillies finely chopped
Instructions
- Wash basmati rice and cook them in 4 cups of water by adding some salt. Drain and keep aside.
- Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a frying pan and add ingredients of seasoning. After frying it very well add curry leaves, ginger and garlic. Saute on low heat until raw flavor goes away.
- Stir fry very well and then add chopped palak, onion and tomatoes. Mix very well by adding spices and salt to taste.
- Cover the pan with its lid and cook on medium high flame until palak is done. After the palak is fully cooked, add boiled basmati rice and mix very well.
- Serve it with your favorite Raita.
Notes
You can add boiled and mashed potatoes in palak, it brings a thick consistency in this. You can cook palak and rice altogether, but then it will take some more time.
