Khatti Meethi Dal is the great combination of sweet and sour ingredients that makes this dal recipe more delicious. It is nothing but the mixture of Bengal gram, jaggery, tamarind and some spices.

Ingredients:
- 2 cups Bengal gram (chana dal)
- 1/2 cup jaggery (gud)
- 1 cup beet root
- 50 gm groundnut
- 1-1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp mustard seed
- 3-4 dried dates (khajoor)
- 2 green chillies chopped
- Few curry leaves (cut into bits)
- A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 3/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1-1/2 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 cup tamarind juice
- 3-4 cloves
- 1 inch cinnamon
- 2 tbsp butter
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves finely chopped
How to make Sweet and Sour Dal:
- Rinse the dal thoroughly in tap water and pour in the pressure cooker.
- Add chopped beet root and pressure cook for 4 whistles.
- When dal is completely cooked then mix the salt and dry spices in it.
- Add 1 cup of water and stir continue on medium high flame.
- Add jaggery, dates and chopped green chillies.
- Mix very well and simmer the flame.
- On the other side, heat a saucepan and melt the butter in it.
- Add seeds and curry leaves.
- Pour the spluttering seeds over dal and mix the remaining ingredients.
- Cook for 5-6 more minutes and serve hot with rice or roti.
