Dal Nawabi is the famous spicy and flavorful dal, that is made in combination of various delicious split lentils and dollop with ghee, cream, milk and cream. Learn how to make quick and tasty nawabi dal recipe and serve with rice or roti.

Ingredients:
- 1 cup urad dal
- 1/2 cup whole moong (green beans)
- 1/2 cup kidney beans (rajma)
- 1/2 cup black dal
- 1 cup green peas (matar)
- 2 cups paneer (cottage cheese in cubes)
- 1 onion thinly chopped
- 4-5 tomatoes puree
- 2 tbsp curd
- 1 cup condensed milk
- 4 tbsp fresh cream
- 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 4 green chillies thinly chopped
- 2 tsp tamarind water
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp yellow mustard seeds
- A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
- 3/4 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp dry mango powder (amchur)
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 cardamom
- 2-3 black peppercorns
- 2 cloves
- Few curry leaves
- 2 tbsp ghee or butter
- 2 tbsp fresh coriander chopped
- Salt to taste
How to make Dal Nawabi:
- Soak the urad dal and kidney beans separately for overnight.
- Also soak moong and black dal for 3-4 hours.
- Combine all the dals in a pressure cooker, add salt and 3 cups of water.
- Cover the cooker with its lid and pressure cook for about 4-5 whistles.
- Heat sufficient oil in a pan, deep fry the paneer pieces and drain on oil absorbent paper.
- Also boil the green peas by adding little bit of salt and keep aside.
- Melt the ghee or butter in a pan.
- Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, asafoetida, bay leaf, cardamom, cloves, peppercorns and curry leaves.
- Stir for few seconds and add ginger-garlic paste along with chopped green chillies.
- Saute for few more seconds and add chopped onion.
- Fry until onions turns into nice pink color.
- Then add puree of tomatoes and little bit of salt.
- Mix very well and cook on medium high heat.
- After few minutes, add spices and tamarind water.
- Mix constantly until the mixture gets cooked very well.
- Pour the mixture into boiling dal, also add curd, milk and fresh cream.
- Stir continuously to avoid the lumps into dal.
- Cook for 3-4 more minutes and add fried paneer and boiled green peas.
- Cook for few more seconds and garnish the delicious nawabi dal with fresh coriander.
- Serve hot with roti, naan or rice.
Chef Tips:
- If you do not get yellow mustard seeds then go ahead with black mustard seeds.
- This dal tastes delicious when cooked in medium thick consistency.
